It’s Never Too Late to Redefine Life After 50
Hello to my new readers and welcome! If you’re reading this, chances are you’re curious about a different way of living, or perhaps you’re simply wondering what on earth possessed a French/American woman of my “age” to pack up her life and hit the open road without a permanent address to her name. Well, you’ve come to the right place. This is my first blog post—how exciting! It’s the beginning of a brand-new chapter, and I’m so excited to share it with you. I want to introduce myself and tell you the story behind this “crazy” move, and I promise I won’t bore you again with how I came to start this lifestyle.
Since childhood, I was never conventional—I never really fit the mold. Nevertheless, I was fine with it and honestly couldn’t care less about others’ perceptions. It allowed me to pack my bag at twenty-one to go live in the US. Needless to say, what was supposed to be a one-year journey turned into a three-decade adventure. Fast forward to 2021, when life took me and my family back to the old continent. Life in Belgium was eventful, to say the least, but it also provided comfort and routine. After separating from my husband of 24 years, I decided that life had more to offer—more experiences, more spontaneity, more connection with the world around me.
The idea of a “nomadic life” wasn’t something I stumbled upon overnight. It evolved from years of quiet longing, fueled by travel documentaries, inspiring stories, and a growing desire for simplicity and freedom. The thought of being able to wake up in a new place, with a new view outside my window, became incredibly appealing. I feel like I’m at the perfect age for this adventure. I have the wisdom of experience, the energy to explore, and the courage to embrace the unknown. This isn’t about escaping; it’s about fully embracing life on my own terms, at my own pace.

When I decided to become nomadic, Europe was the only continent that truly called to me. Why, you ask? Oh, let me count the ways!
Firstly, accessibility and diversity. Europe is a tapestry of cultures, landscapes, and histories, all incredibly well-connected. With my trusty Volvo, I can literally wake up in the Belgian Ardennes, drive a few hours, and be enjoying a coffee in a charming French village, or go wine tasting in Germany’s Rhine region by dinner time. The sheer variety available within a relatively small geographical area is unparalleled.
Secondly, safety and infrastructure. As a woman embarking on this journey, safety is paramount. Europe generally offers excellent infrastructure, reliable roads, and a welcoming environment for solo travelers. The ease of crossing borders, the widespread availability of amenities, and the sense of security make it an ideal choice for car-based nomadic travel, especially for women navigating this lifestyle.
And finally, the sheer joy of it. Imagine spontaneous detours to ancient ruins, long lunches in sun-drenched piazzas, or hiking trails with breathtaking vistas, all just a comfortable drive away. Europe isn’t just a destination; it’s a journey in itself, and I’m ready to immerse myself in every single kilometer of it—and I will!
I started this blog as a challenge for myself to follow through on my vision and to help others take a leap of faith toward something they desire. It is never too late to reinvent ourselves; it is never too late to make drastic changes. The only person that stops you is mostly you—and maybe the lifestyle we choose or to which we are enslaved. So I am making that choice to see if indeed the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. It’s about shedding expectations, embracing minimalism, and discovering what truly makes my soul sing. It’s about showing myself, and perhaps others, that it’s never too late to redefine your path.
